Where Sand Meets Sea

Palatial coastlines mark the seams where the cosmopolitan metropolises of the United Arab Emirates meet the ocean, a startling and dramatic juxtaposition of contrasts—nature versus industry. In this loose abstraction, we find the gold of the land abutting the sea, bisected by a blue and pink figure jutting from the water, reminiscent of a modern skyscraper. The use of fuchsia provides a heated lens into the artist’s ardor for the land as gold leaf and paint continue to boast a geographical pride. Interestingly, prominent zigzags of blue, carved intensely by the end of a thin wooden brush add a mingling dose of pizazz front and center.
