Spree 2
2021
Acrylic and gold leaf on canvas
70 x 90 cm
Furthering her non-verbal investigation into the deep-seated emotions centered upon her connection to the United Arab Emirates, Lobert repeats an earlier painting. Almost identical to Spree 1, the composition evokes the refreshment of summertime. Cool blues denote water or vast, open sky; gold leaf and gold paint evoke sprawling desert sand dunes as well as telling sparkles of the federation’s adoration for opulence; intrusions of white connote the flowing garb of a people firmly embedded within the artist’s mind. With a magnetic pull, translucent scrapes and strokes cover the composition to solidify a most poignant expression.
