Two very different assemblies marry vertically in this unusual juxtaposition. The lower two thirds beckon an underwater paradise where fluid violet strokes swim languidly above a green bush-like form. Sleek drips of red, like fish darting through algae. Centrally, Lobert’s signature use of white gives the impression of a glowing soul behind the scenes, bringing illumination to the shadows. Atop the surface, the external world is evoked through much drier strokes and stringent forms of manmade structures, which sparse out in front of an indigo sky. Columns of violet reach up from below to wed the interior with the exterior reminiscent of the spirit’s journey within the body.
