Lobert often uses red and green together in compositions and one could derive that green represents one aspect of her consciousness in its calm, grounded states, while red suggests disruption or chaos. In this piece, painted during a weekend accompanied by a heavy storm in which winds whipped and trees were felled, we find a sense of her experience. It’s as if she is placing herself within the chaos—green cowering beneath a heightened red reacting to the tumultuous environment around her, expressed in the choppy, muddled background of blues and whites.
