In earlier works, Lobert’s paintings were backgrounded by the consistent presence of genderless silhouettes. In the first three pieces of Bare Consciousness, we see her playing with obscuring them into non-existence. In this last serial appearance of a silhouette, the blue figure on the left in a domed hat, we find the strong and dominant will of the artist staking its claim to move forward into what will become completely liberated abstraction. The commanding yellow stroke reveals this new reign, as do the tined slashes brought down through the form asking for priority recognition. A spiky lilac flower and a diagonal leaf slashed front and center denote a bouquet, a gift given as one sheds the old self and welcomes in the confidence of the unknown.
