In this closing tribute to the United Arab Emirates flag, Lobert successfully marks the end of her inward to outward journey from literal fixation to improvisational articulation via extreme abstraction. No longer following the structural basis or visual truths, this banner waves its black, white, and gold bars in a progressive downward slope, a minimized block of red wafting in the upper left corner, with the artist’s gushing gold and white tine pinstripes weaving throughout. Yet, gold leaf remains, as a beacon of dots, sprawled across the top of this final procession.
