A very literal compositional nod marks this first of seven homages to the flag of the United Arab Emirates. A red vertical block to the left, out from which springs three horizontal stripes in green, white, and black, directly mirrors the national symbol and its Pan-Arab colors. Specks of gold leaf dance across the visage, luxuriously uniting this totem of a federation marked by its love of the rich color and all its adornments. The artist’s exuberance for her subject becomes evident in this initiatory study of a federation’s pride.
