A broad swath of arcing indigo spans this unusual diptych as if Lobert had an existential moment of extreme emotional surge unable to be contained by one canvas. This central form is furthermore rarified in the artist’s oeuvre by the foreground of intensely scratched downward lines revealing the work’s bones and the frenetic circular outpour to the right which has never appeared before. The sudden stream of effusive and exaggerated enthusiasm creates a visual ambrosia. The tine tool used to create the thin lines begins to become a preferred and favorite tool of the artist.
