Cécile Lobert

Untitled, 2021

Acrylic on linen

140 x 160 cm | 55" x 63"

Light takes flight in this rare piece depicting colors Lobert has muted beyond recognition. Black, which is rarely present, takes center stage, as if she is preparing a stark ground for what’s next to ensue. A possible reunion with her shadow has occurred thus rendering the usual vivid colors above it – muted. Red becomes pink. Blue becomes cornflower. And the ultimate slashing of all mingled together become a jubilee of liberation, fleeing from the norm, a newly hatched meridian manifests ... a conclusion of symmetry, dash, and particular strokes we know not yet the meaning of but are awed in their presence, nonetheless. Busyness takes hold.
