The sun slowly rises over a new day in this sublimely colored piece reminiscent of a gentle lilting morning. A dark purple bud at the left softly unfolds to absorb the soothing, life-giving rays as the cornflower blue field to the right mingles with the heat to dampen its strength and slowly welcome its intrusion into the waking world. Tined swoops through each allows for hue to blend into marvelous combinations that might be seen as a metaphor for how our environment consistently influences our mood, and how these cycles influence us in perpetuity. The square composition is notable because it joins company with other solitary square paintings that arrive once in each of Lobert’s series.
