Since childhood, Lobert has maintained a daily ritual of eating smashed fruit at four p.m. This painting in its ripened berry blues and reds, its pear and apple greens, emerged instantly following one of these moments. Following her snack, she instantly visited her studio to create this homage to that solitary moment in time. It is a prime example of the artist’s act of reacting to her immediate present through creative expression—an ambiance-rich portrait of a single slice of day.
